Sainsbury’s School Games Level 2 Gymnastics Competition

Tuesday 8th March, 2016

Priory’s talented Gymnasts perform brilliantly in their first gymnastic competition

Priory’s Yr4 gymnastics team (ages 8 to 9 years old) performed magnificently at the Sainsbury School Games Gymnastics Competition at the Huntingdon Gymnastics Club on Tuesday. The Priory pupils competing in their first ever gymnastics competition, performed magnificently, as they somersaulted, balanced, cartwheeled and vaulted their way to a magnificent top three spot for the third successive year. Missing out on qualification for the next round by the narrowest of margins - just half a point!

The Priory team members all performed to the best of their abilities, producing some fantastic routines which combined several elements in complex sequences which they had practiced at an afterschool club beforehand. They performed excellent vaults with great composed landings.

Great determination was shown by all the children, who were competing in their first ever gymnastics competition against ten other schools in the Huntingdonshire finals.

Mr Sadler, Deputy Headteacher, at said: “The Year 4 children have worked really hard to prepare for this competition and after performing so well at the Huntingdon Gym, Britain’s most successful Gymnastics club, the children are completely hooked on gymnastics! Special thanks to teachers, Miss Stevenson and Miss Brace, who prepared and coached the children so well for the event.”

All the youngsters came back incredibly enthused and are now looking forward to representing their school in future School Games events.
