Awesome athletics!

Priory A, B and C enjoy quadkids tournament!

Match Report: Quadkids athletics tournament.         Tuesday 13th June 2017

Priory sent three teams to the quadkids athletics tournament on Tuesday afternoon being held at St Ives outdoor centre. Each child had to take part in a howler throw, standing long jump, 400/600m and 60m sprint event.

Priory A began with the 600m where the boys performed well with Thomas finishing 2nd and Lewis a close 3rd behind him. Poppy and Lillie also found themselves towards the front of the girls race in what was an excellent start for the team.

Their next event was the standing long jump. Lillie and JJ both ended up winning their respective groups in the heat giving Priory maximum points in the process. The howler throw also went well with everybody achieving a good distance.

There were also good results for the Priory B. Grace had some excellent all round performances across all events and Alfie achieved the furthest throw across all the B teams with the howler.

Lottie gave a fantastic performance for Priory C in the 400m. With the whole team cheering her on, she stormed around her lap of the track, well in front of the competition to give Priory the highest possible number of points.

The final event for all teams was the sprint. With Mr. Smith watching on at the finish line, the Priory teams put in some excellent performances with a number of the children winning their races in excellent times. There were race wins for Kane, Lewis, JJ, Grace, Damian, Lottie and Patrick as well as a close second finish on the line for Josh.

Priory A finished a very respectable 5th out of the 16 teams that entered with the B team finishing 4th out of 12. All the children really enjoyed the afternoon and are looking forward to improving on their finishing position next year.

Priory A: Charlotte, Lillie, Poppy, Lillian, Thomas W, Kane, Lewis, JJ.

Priory B: Grace, Maddie, Ella, Natasha, Damian, Alfie, Leon, Josh.

Priory C: Patrick, Reece, Lottie.

Sensational Priory Qualify for Record fifth School Games Final

A cold blustery wind could not prevent the Priory Athletics Team putting in a sizzling performance at the Sainsbury’s Games Hunts School Sports Athletics QuadKids event as they qualified for a record fifth School Games Final!

In an exhibition bout of athletics power-play that produced a number of UK Athletics Quadkids Gold Award standards, it was Priory Junior School’s runners, throwers and jumpers who were on top form on the as the St Neots school managed to haul themselves into second position in the final event rotation, and their determination over the 75m, 600m,long jump and howler throw proved to be decisive as they advanced up the leader board. This second place finish means that Priory will represent Huntingdonshire in the School Games Final on June 25th.

The strength of the Priory Junior team was further exhibited when the final results showed they had one of the top Boys & Girls in the shape of Joe, who won his 600metre heat in a time of 1minute 55 seconds (just 4 seconds outside the Games record!) and Daisy who threw over 20metres in the howler throw. On the track there were also wins in the 600metres for Charlie and Kiana. Priory’s podium finish was well deserved as all the children have worked extremely hard at the school’s Athletics club. Gold standards were achieved by Renato, Charlie and Daisy. Congratulations to all the children who took part and many thanks to the superb Young Leaders who officiated at the event.
